I'm pregnant!

My last blog post was for New Years & now here we are almost welcoming Easter! As we suffer through the hottest months of the year, the only thing keeping us sane our the slow integration of mangoes in the markets. Being highly allergic has not stopped me from indulging here and there--how could I not!? The itchy ears and fingers are worth it, trust me.

In February we started classes again at the Center. I adjusted my class load from last year since it was a bit much. As of now, I'm teaching short term photography workshops, four-week water color classes in community schools, English Conversation (with only one student), and assisting with violin. During the in between, I still do the photography and work alongside our media team. Perhaps it's still a lot, but my favorite part is making connections with the students. They're all so unique and bring so much life here to the Center.

The fist six week photography seminar went so well. After the end of 5 sessions, we held a photography exposition where two students showcased five of their photos. It was tremendous to see how much they advanced in such a short amount of time. For the exhibition, students from other classes participated, violin students performed various duets, and we ate fruit tarts. Hands down the best photography event we've had so far.

To try and escape the brutal heat & rest from busy work life, Mauricio and I have gone on two mini trips. The first being to Conchagua, a mountain top that you can camp on and view Nicaragua, Honduras, and El Salvador. The air was cold, we drank coffee grown on the mountain property, and woke up at 5am to watch the sunrise. Truly one of the most amazing experiences.

Our most recent trip, Juayua, was just as fun but we got to explore a river/waterfall. I've never seen such crystal blue water before. While enjoying once again a break from the excruciating heat, we were thankful to get some time together and eat WAY too many tacos. Still recovering from that meal...

Now, to address the title hehe. SURPRISE we found out we were expecting February 10. What came as definitely a shock is something we are eagerly awaiting. Mauricio and I have both wanted kids and although it's sooner than we planned (when does anything ever go to plan) we're excited to embrace parenthood and prepare for October 20. Luckily, I've had little to no pregnancy symptoms. The struggle with the high temperatures has been plenty difficult on its own. We've received lot's of love & support and we know that two countries will love this baby just as much as we will.

Lastly, I'll be coming home for a few weeks in April. I've been trying to live in the present, but it's been hard not to daydream of Spring weather & cheddar cheese. There's lots to celebrate when home & I'm thankful that I'll be able to participate--the biggest one is meeting my new nephew.
