rain in the morning

A question I have been asking since May is, "Why does it only rain in the evenings/nights?" I had yet to get a factual response from anyone and was learning to accept the fact of the matter. This morning as I peeled open the door, eyes still heavy with sleep, the rain drops dripped from the roof slamming onto my nose. I couldn't contain the smile on my face...it was finally "cold" and raining in the morning. The moral of the story--I should know by now that nothing here is predictable.
August felt like one of the longest months this year. I think I lived multiple lives in only 31 days. My time here at the Center has been very slow, but I started and completed my four week photography seminar. It went great and I feel that the students were engaged and learned a lot. For the ones that want to, they are participating in an exhibicion here and will present their printed photos on October 1. I'm most excited to see how they manifest the given theme, "Our hands in the Earth, the Earth in our hands." This is based from the museum that is here at the Center and uses themes such as climate justice, environmentalism, and the geographical history of El Salvador.
Outside of my work, I got to spend some time with a volunteer from Spain, Matilde. She volunteered here for the month and we took a trip to Chalentanango. The mountainous landscape and cold air there forever has my heart. We bought plenty of fresh produce of the side of the road and trudged through small communities looking for rivers to swim in. Although we did not find any suitable for swimming, we did meet/make a handful of friends along the way. I learned that whoever Matilde meets is no stranger and always a friend.
Lastly, as I sit here enjoying the rainy weather, I can't help but miss Fall. I think I miss having seasons the most---and Fall scented candles....If you want, please make some pumpkin bread, light a candle, skip through the leaves, and put on a hoodie for me. A girl can only live vicariously.

Alway enjoy your updates!
